COVERWOOD LAKES, Bog Garden and Cottage Garden. The gardens of about 12 acres are beautifully landscaped with specimen Rhododendrons up to 30ft. tall, Azaleas and Camellias, together with a wide variety of trees and flowering shrubs surrounding the four lakes. Natural Springs in the bog garden form streams to feed the lakes. Along the edges of the streams, the dampness provides ideal conditions for Lysichitum, both white and yellow, and Gunnera Manicata to thrive. Bordering the paths are a great variety of Hosta, Trillium, Candelabra Primula and Lilies of the Valley.
A 3.5 acre arboretum was planted in March 1990 with young trees from all over the world which were interplanted with a matrix of more common varieties to encourage growth. The trees have put on a phenomenal amount of growth since they were planted and have now undergone their first thinning.
COVERWOOD FARM is a grassland farm in a picturesque setting in the Surrey Hills between Holmbury Hill and Pitch Hill, midway between Guildford and Dorking. The main enterprises are the breeding of Pedigree Poll Hereford Cattle, the production of top quality hay for horses, the breeding of sheep and the management of horses. A farm trail has been marked so that visitors can walk around the farm and see some cows with their calves, bulls of various ages, the ewes with their lambs, and a variety of horses. The highest field offers excellent views of the surrounding hills.
